Lessons Learnt and Launch Event Presentation
May 4th involves the presentation of the lessons that we've learnt during the current modules.
What I’ve been listening to this week:

GEORGE MORRIS
Import into Unreal and Troubleshooting
"This week is all about getting the renders done ready before submission on the 11th of May."
"One of the biggest problems when it came to rendering out the shots for this short film was that the camera import didn't work, they wouldn't be in the right places, which meant that I had to hand animate all the shots in the project, making sure they matched the previous playblasts, and that they all worked well together."
"Once the camera was animated and everything set up I then had to try and make the scene look busy by utilising the fish AI we bought off the unreal marketplace, I placed them in bounding boxes to somewhat control the space they could move in. Adding in fishes was a highly difficult task however, as the movement you would get is completely random, you can only change a few parameters around how many fish gather, the speed, the size etc.
So placing these fish in the scene would be a highly iterative process of testing and re-testing."
"Some shots required special effects that I also had to make. For shots 70 and 80 as the containers hit the ground the sand had to be kicked up, we thought comp would be able to do this for us, however in the end he was not able to. Having help, I managed to create a simple sand plume in unreal engine's Niagara system that worked well in the scene."
"I didn't know how to create this kind of thing in Unreal, but with help I am now more comfortable knowing how to create simulations such as these basic ones."
"Over the week I got nearly half of the shots finished, next week I will aim to have rendered all shots, so we are well prepared for the submission date."

JESSICA HILES
Dailies and Troubleshooting
"This week we had our ‘Lessons Learned’ presentation. This was nerve-wracking as I’m not good with public speaking without a script of sorts, but I didn't have that many slides which calmed me down. I talked about the characters and the rigging. For this, I mentioned who helped as part of the mark scheme is about collaboration and how that has helped you and I thought that would show how we’ve tried to find outside help to further our project. Some of the feedback we got from the presentation was mostly to do with finances and that they weren't clear. One note that was directed at me was about the pipeline, it wasn’t fully clear. To fix this, I made a flowchart detailing what our process was.
I only did animation for a brief time this week. I fished off the last bit of cleaning up,added some overshoot and offset and then exported the alembics for George to import into Unreal.
As for my personal work, I found some bird watching video that seemed like a good reference. So I decided to set myself a challenge to do a new process of animation. First, I would animate the body, treating each appendage as a basic shape and, by using the x-ray view option, I would animate each section separately. This seemed to work really well and after only 2 hours of animating I had some very solid blocking in place."

MUHAMAD USMAN
Since I had nothing to do, I needed to complete my individual folder. When the lighting was compiled by George, I will look to see if anything needs some changes if it is complicated or within my field of expertise.
What I’ve been listening to this week:

PRIYA SHAH
