Mini Showreel

After receiving internal feedback from tutors and consultants, I've adapted the lander mini-reel. Extending the duration of the mini-reel to ~35 seconds and highlighting more shots of 'Our Ocean'.

[Mini Showreel version #002]

Ferris Wheel Blockout

I have begun blocking out the Ferris wheel with simple geometry.

Website Contact Page

Accessible through the contact button on the website Home Page, I have begun constructing a contact page that also list the prices of the services that SunCoast provide. The fundamentals of this page have been made. I now need to match the theme of the rest of the website.

CRM Spreadsheet

On the Master Spreadsheet, I've added the inclusion of a CRM spreadsheet. This entails a number of contacts that include Escape staff, potential clients, marketing companies, etc.

Production Log

Added my entry for the production log #16. Just waiting for other people’s entries to input.

Brand Sprint

During a feedback session, in regards to our website, it was made apparent that we were failing to adhere to the inclinations of our intended demographic. To help reimagine the brand identity of SunCoast Studios, it was recommended by Daniel Waterman to conduct a 'Remote Brand Sprint'. This helped compare ourselves with the brand identity of competition.

Import into Unreal and Troubleshooting

"As I wait for the animators to finish their shots and the scene to be completed, I am working on finishing off the poster designs.

Me and the director Priya had some issues trying to get highlights on the characters eyes for the poster, at the moment they are very rough, so I have to try and fix their textures in order to get some specularity."

"This ended up being a difficult process to fix however, sadly the person doing the textures did have the eyes as a separate material but added onto the shell material, meaning any changes I do to make the eyes more reflective would happen to the rest of the model."

"In the end we had to mask out parts of the material to make it reflective in photoshop, then in Unreal I made it so the highlight is visible for the final image of the poster."

Dailies and Troubleshooting

"Following the blocking, I moved onto splining. One thing I released some of the movements that were a bit too big or too slow. There was a big difficulty in making it look like the characters were suspended in water without looking too floaty. This was a big problem this week. To ‌combat this, I took a step back and looked at some references again. I even tried to draw out the movement on a whiteboard next to my PC so I could be able to refer to it while animating."

"As well as this I realised I wanted to apply for some jobs. However my showreel is quite old and I've not added anything new in a while. After talking to my friend Ross at MPC, he suggested I include a reference shot. Being specialised in creatures, I wanted to stick to that theme so I picked the horse's rear we did in year 2 and tried to fix some ‌existing animation. I quickly realised that the animation was broken and so I had to start again."

With the stalls completed and textured in the scene, I have then looked for more assets that will be fitting within the scene. I have taken a bit more form the quixel megascans and indeed them into the project. I will start looking at atlases that can be placed within the scene. After the feedback, I instead looked for a way to include lighting within the scene. I have cobbled together what resembles a street light and set them up as blueprints. With that, a video is sent to the team of the environment at its final until feedback.
