Introductions

The Striking Out session today involved an in-depth talk with Architectural Visualizer, Hayden Brinkley.

Post-college (Art college & Ravensbourne) consisted of a 3 month internship followed by work at Hayes Davidson.

"I learnt it's not just about creating beautiful images. It's about creating beautiful images with stories."

Think BDW > Grain > Evolution Virtual

I was approached to work for Evolution Virtual and asked what would convince me to work for them. I was allowed to work remotely which was really helpful since my daughter had been born not shortly before. There was a studio in Brazil which I helped train up over the course of 6 months.

Questions

Where can we find your work? - You can find me on Pinterest including all of the images I've collected. I am also on Instagram and LinkedIn.
What are some great ways to start creating stories? What are some methods that you use to create stories? - Stories often develop at different stages within the project. We once had a client who loved their car so much that they wanted a picture of their car in front of their building. So it all depends on the on the client.
With the external images, how much is photography and how much is 3D renders? Could you use an example to help explain? - It's different every time. Depends on how you change the composition.
What tools do you use for your work? - So I'm aware you have some people in the industry and some gamers who buy all the tools and 4 or 5 monitors but you don't need to spend all this money on crazy stuff. You just need a decent processor and RAM. And I use 3DSMax & Adobe Photoshop. It only takes a few weeks/months to learn to learn how to use a new tool so it's better to prioritize the art skills itself as it is all transferable.
How do you collect your references? - I follow loads of design blogs/magazines and I get about 300 emails a day now. Most of the time nowadays, I just delete delete delete. Sometimes when you have time, I save the images from them to keep for references.

Reflection Segment

"The 'Striking Out' session with Hayden Brinkley has been a great assistance to my Masters' business idea. One struggle that I've had difficulty combating is communication. Communicating my idea to peers has been somewhat poor and has been made apparent to me over the past couple pitches.

Julia Shalet mentioned the use of parralel competitors/products to help explain ideas. 'It's like something else we know how to use. Basing on something they already know'

Not only that, we can utilize Saint's introduction to the SCAMPER brainstorming method to perfectly communicate what my idea is.

SCAMPER: (S)ubstitute
