Slide Decks

In regards to slide decks, the feedback that I had received was overwhelmingly negative.

“The visuals are awful and as a fourth-year student, we expect much better from you.” - (mentioned after the October 20th pitch)

My work had been used as an example to the class of what shouldn’t be done for concept work and slide decks. This kind of feedback wasn’t a huge impact, as the slide deck was a downloaded template (and I wasn't present at the time of feedback), but it did drive me to design my own template for the next pitch.

Designing the Slide Deck

[Reference image]

The above image is the largest influence on the slide deck design. A simple black background with an orange column and a white bar at the bottom. The negative space would be used to display information and the column(s) and bar would frame it. Combined with the use of half-space vectors, logos and Chinese lettering, the slide deck would be embellished with small details and graphics that would clutter the bar and columns.

The decision to use half-space vectors fit the retro theme that I intended to adhere to. I think I wanted to use them after discovering multiple resources from Pinterest.

The choice to use Chinese lettering originates from my partner who is of Chinese descent. The word, depicted in the top left of most frames, is my partner’s Chinese name.

Many of the frames in the presentation use a psychological technique that triggers feelings of closure

I had intended that most of the frames in the slide deck use the power of threes to trigger a sense of closure, a powerful psychological technique that resides in us since childhood.

Previs

To accompany the slide deck, I've included previs to help illustrate what I am aiming for.

Reflection Segment

I have no idea how effective the power of threes is for my slide deck. I can only assume the worst as I don’t intend to conduct the research to mitigate the assumption (time constraint). If it does work, then the slide deck benefits.
